For those who have installed the 5 speed tranny from a Trooper (or the like). Was it a direct bolt in? By that I mean: Was there any fabrication required? Was the Troop tranny the same length as the Luv's? Where did the stick for the xfer case come out? I found a tranny and, if I'm going to do it, I want to do it simultaneously with the motor swap.

Thanks in advance...

do u know the gear ratios of the trooper 5 speed and is it as low as the luvs. and how low is 4 lo? i was thinking of this but i want low gears. and i need first to be lo so i don't always have to use 4lo just to get it lo. matt

It'll be one out of a 2.3, 2.6, or 2.8. The one I found is out of an '85. I've since found a few locally for less than the one in the yard. I wonder if the one from the 2.8 will fit. I can get it from a place 2 hours away...

I saw an early trooper drive by my place yesterday with a for sale sign. That would be another in the area, somewhere. Sounded like a 1.8L running on 3 cyls so it might be going cheap, it managed to limp by too fast for me to catch a number, price, or anything more than the fact it was for sale. Look for a red and white/cream trooper chugging like choo choo train. ;) (I tink I can, I tink I can, I tink.. awfugit)

This thread came up in a search for me and I had to laugh. That trooper I saw chugging past me is sitting right outside now. I bought it and fixed it up, and still have it 10 years later.

You do now that this thread is over 10 years old right, I doubt it's still for sale.

 If you would have waited a month, it would have been exactly 10 years old. 8O

Actually, now that you mention it, this truck is about to be for sale again. I just bought a 95 Trooper with a slight tranny problem. (Gear selection issues, not clothing/life choices)

Glad you let us know which kind of tranny problem you meant
