well lets see......
why not to use chevy rear ends.....
C-clips....axle breaks and it shoots out of rear end...
disassembly and re-assembly...ford has a center section "pumpkin" that you can remove and install a different one with a different gear ratio in about 30 minutes +/- for highway driving or strip use.
setup of gears....ford is much easier and quicker to set up the gears.
I dunno if that is all....im sure someone else will chime in and add some.
:D

That's about it. A 9" is also stronger. They have proved to be supperior thats why so many companies are offering bolt in 9" housings for so many vehicles.

A chevy 12 bolt is more efficient at putting the power to the ground (due to the position of the pinion gear on the ring gear) but they are expensive to narrow/build up, they are a pain to do a gear swap on, C clips etc. etc. 9" is as simple as it gets and are strong with stock components.

That doesnt mean that a 12 or 10 bolt is a bad rear end because I know a lot of people that have 9 sec cars on a 10 bolt with stock axles and c clips. The 9" is just peace of mind though.

Well I just did some mesuring and the chevy monza 10 bolt under my luv is 49 "backing plate mount to backing plate mount and an 8" out of a v-6 pinto is 53" but if you use two left side axeles and have the right side of the housing narrowed to the same length as the left side it will be dang close to a perfict fit and very strong. I am still looking into using the front spindels and disk brakes off the old pinto race car so stay posted...... and thats my $0.02....

You can also get a 12 bolt ring & pinion set up for use in a 9" because it takes less horsepower to turn a 12 bolt ring & pinion than a 9". The 9" has a third pinion bearing that the 12 bolt does not have. I think it adds to the strength but each bearing will take a little more power to turn.

I was just about to mention that. also i believe there is something to do with a 9" having the pinion at the bottom of the ring gear as opposed to the 12 pinion in the middle of the ring gear as a horsepower advantage. They say the 12 bolt has about .1 sec (some people say up to .2 sec) advantage in ET.
