I have a '77 and was wondering what gears are in it from the factory? Also I was told that it was a Ford 8 inch rear, is this true? Thanks :microwave:

Don't know about it being a ford 8inch, but the factory gears were 4.56 for standards and 4.11 for auto.

Just to clarify what Bob posted, he is correct. I looked up the rear-end parts info in my factory parts book and the ONLY two ring and pinion sets listed for all years 72-81 are 4.56:1 for manual, 4.10:1 for automatic.

I just replaced the bearings in the rear of my luv 4X4. The ratio was 4:10. It also has factory air. Could it be that (air) is the reason for the 4:10 ratio?

Maybe someone swapped rears/gears on the truck?

the 4x4s propably used the 4.10 ratio because of the gear ratio in the transfer case. and tire size can make a diffrence.
