we all know what they are.. they are those mysterious relays behind that little metal cover on the passenger side of our engine compartments... ive learned that they are realys for the fuel pump and ignition... my quandry involves the removal of them... since i have done an ignition upgrade from points to electronic shouldnt i be able to just remove the boxes, run my fuel pump power wire straight to bypass this and do away with the ignition one since it no longer hads a ballast resistor? it would be nice to get rid of the extra wiring thats all there and since ive had my harness apart 3 times since i have owned the truck and removed some stuff for my GM 1-wire alternator conversion i would like to further the simplification of my truck's wiring... just wondering really if these have an involvment in any other electronic part of my truck...

thanks
Dustin

Relays are good and needed thing depending on the current a device uses.
They cam be a PITA. But they are fairly easy to understand.

There is a ton of info on the internet. If a relay goes bad while you are on the road, a little cheat sheet will get you going by bi-passing it. I would think the fuel pump would be a good thing to use a relay on.

Your fuel pump runs of the ignition switch. Too much load on it will shorten the life of the switch.. Try to find a Luv switch, anywhere but here.... I have mine running of a relay... There is even a impact switch that can be installed. It will switch it off after a wreck. Most all new cars have these.

I know you wanted to make it simpler. The simplest setup I know is a dune buggy setup...
