Ok, I have heard SO MANY THINGS on what transmission I need to get, and this weekend I have a good opportunity to get a 5 speed for my truck.

Out of what sort of vehicle? Isuzu Trooper 4x4, right? A 5 speed from a 4x4 PUP and a 1.8 (Or did the pup not have a 1.8?) will not work?

Thanks!

There are two options.

1) Cable opertated clutch 5 spd from a 2.3L powered Trooper or Pickup

2) Hydro operated clutch from a 2.6L powered Trooper or Pickup

Option 1 is pretty straightforward to install. You have to rework the mounts and shorten the rear driveline but that is about it.

Option 2 means also reworking the clutch pedal, adding a master cylinder, lines, and slave cylinder, and so forth. However, the trans is a bit stronger and has some options available for other stuff like extra low transfer case gears if you are into crawling.

Hello! I got a rather large 5 speed w/ hydro stuff (And yes, I got the entire hydro assembly including pedal mount and assembly) off of what looked like a Trooper. it had a 4 cyl. engine I assume the 1.9. The mounting situation looks identical, but like you have said-the clutch actuator is on the other side. It said "MNU" transmission or something-I forget what exactly on a plate in the suv.

I managed to get the rear driveline (For the yoke-it is a 2 piece unit), the crossmember, the trans, the complete juice clutch setup. The front driveline was missing, but there is a 4 bolt setup and the yoke plate is there, too.

I need to get some measurements for the driveline, and then some money together, and get the driveline shortened/lengthened, and I can weld the crossmember in myself.

I plan on moving the pedal assembly back 2-3 inches, I will report on how I accomplish that, for legroom (I am 6'1"). I like this truck, I want to make it work for me.

The only problem with moving the pedals back is the steering wheel housing-but I feel I can overcome that with spacers-where there is a will there is a way.

Anyway, is there anything else I should know about this swap? The trans seems very stout, it has a huge transfer case section with massive cooling fins. I am very interested in a 4 by low gear for crawling. Does that mean I can retain my highway gearing for 2 by (Is it only in the 4 by low?).

Thank you for your time!!
