Has anybody else used an 63-67 Chevy Nova 8.2 under there truck?

I was going to use an S 10 rear with its width of 54" flange to flange as it will drop right into a luv chassis...... but i was concerned with the 7.5 for durability behind my 6.
The Nova rear is 4" wider but it seems like a viable and cheap option for the added strength. would it be worth the effort for the stronger 8.2?

Any Ideas guys?

the s10's have two different measurements...... on the NBS some of the v6's have the 7.625"

The s10 guys say the 7.625 will handle upwards of 350hp. Thats what THEY say, and I tend to belive some of them with the built up s/c 4.3's

I had a zexal limited-slip diff in mine and it took alot of abuse and was alot of fun.

RPO Codes for the s10 rearends

GU4=3.08
GU5=3.23
GU6=3.42
GT4=3.73
GT5=4.10
HC4=4.56
G80 - locking differential

8O what are you worried about the S10 rear end is the exact same as the 82-92 Camaro/Firebird and they are alot heaver than a LUV.
Maybe big h/p and sticky slicks but just bolt one in and don't worry

The s-10 rear is ok as far as chevy running gear goes,( I hate c-clip axles!!!) I had a 82 s-10 that i put a sbc in and it held up with 4.56 and 3.07's with a lock right in both.

What some of the S10 guys are doing is getting an Explorer 8.8 rear and getting 1 extra short axle and going that route. Posi, and rear discs come with most of those units and they are getting some good deals on them.

Ok, So the S10 rear aint to bad of and option it seems. Alot of people have talked badly about the 7.625, so it made me want to question it first, especially with a blower on the new engine.

Thanks

It's been awhile since I did this swap, but I used a 1956 ford rear & it was a near perfect fit for width. With a stock 231, the 7.5 S-10 should be great, but if you are adding lots of H.P., (blower, turbo, NOS) I wouldn't use anything but a ford 9". Also, there was a LUV in my area which used an all 68 Nova drivetrain, radiator, motor, tranny, rearend, the rear was a little wide, but seemed to be a good fit with a change of backspace on the wheels.

Does anybody know if the S-10 extremes came with a factory posi unit?
and also concerning the RPO codes. Where on the truck would that be located?

the RPO codes are in the glovebox
The Extremes had the same rearends....
The only real differences were that it had 2" drop coils, blocks, the body graphics and a smaller steering box ratio.

A 8.8 has a rear cover like a chebbie does... That looks like a 9 inch with the factory Nodular center. Really good score.

OK, so i found a happy medium.

I pulled the rear out of a 04 S10 with a V6 and 5 speed, and ended up with a 8.5" and a posi. its exactly the same size as the early S10 rears so its the perfect swap. The guy at the yard said that most V6 5 speed S10s were equipped with the 8.5 - the downside is it was fairly pricey for the piece, So theres the strength and the ease of bolt on upgrade.

on another note, I managed to fit the early nova rear anyway, with the perches moved and with a 8" rim and 5 1/2" backspace the rear fits nicely, Its good to have an extra rear anyways I suppose.

Thanks for everybodys .02 cents worth.

A.j.
