is this a good tranny? reliable? how many speeds?

this is what was in a cutlass that i bought with a 350 rocket. i only bought it for the motor & tranny fior the luv... i want to learn a lil about the motor and tranny before i drop them in.

No its not that good of trans so you need a th350 or better yet a 200R4

200R4's were available on lots of mid '80's full size GM's. If you use http://www.car-parts.com search under BOP stuff. Some Impalas, Delta 88/98, Parisienne, I forget the Buick full size model name (Electra?). The advantage of the R4 is that you'll get the OD for highway driving. When you go looking for one, look for the word 'Metric' stamped in the tranny pan. That's an indicator that it's an TH200R4.They sometimes come up on craigslist too...
