I went to a local shop to get an estimate on how much it would cost me to have them pull the old engine and replace it with one that I rebuild since my apartment complex has outlawed any kind of mechanical work on my truck. The guy says "14 hours @ $67 an hour = just under $1000". Then he added, "with shop supplies it'll be out the door right at $1000". I guess it's time to find a storage unit to rent for a month while I swap the motor, paint, and do some welding. This sucks! I wish someone had a shed or something I could borrow/rent for a month. Any ideas?

I always found it more convenient to rent an apartment that had garage units too. Im not saying that you should move but it sure makes things easier to do. An extra 50 or 60 bucks a month sure makes for a more secure way of working on stuff and you dont have to do a major cleanup when your done for the day, you can just pick right up where you left off. I had the tranny go south on my Luv in 1988 and i had the same problem. Local auto shops didn't want to do it because the motor and tranny had to be pulled at the same time to get at the tranny. I moved to an apartment that had garages and towed my truck over and i got to work fixing it. I made some extra coin working brake jobs and such to offset the rental. I will also move to a place thats gated. I like the extra security. My neighbors were honest and quiet. It turns out that when i move into a place, more stuff get moved to the garage than into the apt. Gotta have my tools and equipment.

I live in place with garages (I have one). The problem is that all my stuff doesn't fit in the apartment, so some stuff is sitting in the garage. That leaves no room for my truck. What I didn't think about though is renting an extra $45 storage room for a couple of months. That would house my stuff, and then I could work on my truck. Thanks for turning on the light in my dim brain. Sometimes it takes an outside point of view to see some things. :D
