I'm experimenting with a roller cam for the first time...it's out of a 305 tbi engine and i got lifters and cam and hold downs ect... was wondering lift specs on this cam... Also, I know it aint a good idea, but was wondering what happens when these lifters are ran with a large aftermarket hydraulic cam? (non roller?) Im assuming it cant be done for some reason, but just wanted to ask why or, most likely, why not... sometimes a logical answer is better than a simple no, know what I mean??

You can run the factory rollers on an aftermarket roller cam, as long as it isn't a small base circle. If you compare the lobe profile of a roller versus non roller cam, the non roller has a sharper ramp. The roller will lose contact with the lobe at speed. Not good.

Also small base circle allows the roller lifter to drop to far into the bore . Also you would be giving away effective duration that is the main benefit of having a roller .

Most of the benefit with the factory rollers is due to less friction. The specs are pretty similar.
