I can't remember exactly who, but I believe I heard someone say a while back that you could take certain year model troopers steering boxes and steering arm and convert a Luv to power steering. Is this truly possible? If so what year trooper would I have to find. I have searched old treads and still haven't come across anything about it. I came across a couple of junk troopers around 84-86ish and a pup in a local yard and was wondering if any of them would work.

Thanks in advance guys!

RPOZ11 did some research on this and I think he got all the information. There should be a thread somewhere around here.

Or you can go over to his site at v8luv.com, but you have to register to read any posts.

Let us know if you try it. I'd like to put one on my truck too.

Yes, I have that P/S Box, rebuilt, and can get these as rebuilts.
I havent gotten to the pointe of installation yet as I have yet to determine which truck is going to be the test model for it.

I have some power side and return side lines being mocked up for a GM Power Steering pump/reservoir so it could be used on a SBC motor to this P/S box.
The biggest trouble is determining the reservoir unit to power the box, then determine the male - female ends for your use.(and bracketry ...of course)

I think each individual has their preference of unit they wish to use.
As for the GM units, 64-87, the return side varies in dropout location.
Thus, a slip on hose to this location with the male end, or as needed depending upon which unit you have.

I have a GM and an aftermarket P/S unit that we are testing; both for fit and the other due to the area restraints given.

Now, if you folks here are looking for this to be with the Isuzu G180/200 motor setups and the Trooper P/S unit, I have not....at this time....done any deveolpement for this.
Actually, I dont have any Trooper units to test that for fit and , the obvious bracketry necessary to mount that to these motors.

In given time, I will resolve this!
Hope that is useful here.

I think this is what you are looking for; however, I had to narrow the search down to the
http://forums.luvtruck.com/viewforum.php?f=7 section...for which this topic may be better suited for.

Ive got one here and theres no way it will fit. I hangs too far forward at the front of the motor and hits the crossmember under the radiator.

I think what was done was using a smog pump bracket to hold the power steering pump.

You would have to make some sort of bracket and have the pump in a different location.

Yep and thats what im going to have to do.

Or i could put in a 4ZE1 2.6L motor and use the pump and bracket in its stock location.

Awesome guys just what I needed to know thanks for the help. Now I believe it is time to kill a trooper.

Well I have of course my 1980 Mikado that will have a gen III sbc in it.

However I have also came across another Mikado that has a vortec 4.3 with the aluminum serpentine and It has the pump still on it just no power steering box so this might be a simple direct bolt in except for maybe having some power steering lines made.

Thanks again everyone!
