I beleive it's a Solex, technicaly manufactured for and backed by Weber. Kinda like a LUV is technicaly not a Chevrolet, but an Isuzu. Send the pinhead a picture of your box.

I wouldn't care if it was a toshiba, or daewoo, or maytag as long as it makes my truck run sooo good people think i have like 120 -130 HP in there vice the 80(i think it should be at around 80 due engine wear right) i just needed to know so that i could go like "just plug in the part number and don't ask questions you lowly peon"
The guy at autozone(that was soo disgusting to look at that i walked out without even looking at the three plug Dizzy cap he just gave me) tried telling me that back in 1979 my LUV came with Bosch Plugs... Didn't match up in my head so i just said no it came with NGK's
Even tho i wasn't sure , and i said it with poker face
Did they come with NGK's ??

Seeing as how they were built by Isuzu, a Japanese company, I would bet NGK also a Japanese company.

I have yet to see a LUV with original plugs still in it so its hard to tell for sure. It would be either NGKs or NipponDensos I'd bet tho, more likely NGKs.

HAHA I rule.... i think
I don't know how kosher this is amongst other mechanics cuz i don't know any that dare delve into the realm of shopping in homedepot for carparts.
What set this off? The above thread, that the 34/34 dgec didn't have an adapter + time crunch to get smogged + Don't ever tell me it can't be done!!
So started at home depot with a $5 PVC 3" to 3" rubber junction thingy
Image
Original plan was to cut some of the bottom away and rubber cement some extra rubber to accomendate the oblong shape of the carb but to my surprise, the top of the 34/34 dgec although not round has an overall 3" diameter and rubber is flexible 1+1=2 right. After some initial sizing for hood clearance i took 1" of the coupler and fit again
ImageImageImage
No mods needed on the stock aircleaner
Image
seals good without a clamp, even better with a clamp
ImageImage
some finishing adjustments
ImageImageImage
used the aluminum foil to check the clearance, Though it sat a little higher and less slanted than stock it had plenty of room left, the hood didn't even touch the foil
ImageImage
Measuring for some spacers
ImageImageImage
Spacer Factory made out of stock steel conduit or tubing
ImageImageImage
A little grinding on the forward screw bracket on the air cleaner was nescessary to accomondate the change in angle. The bolts i got were M8 1.25X60, They were too long. I'll get better ones tomorrow. there is no problem with the cleaner shifting because the hose clamps hold it snug.

And viola, Weber you say, why I wonder what you are talking about silly smog machine operator dude.

A custom, sturdy, well spaced intake adapter for under $10 Not too shaby, did it in less than an hour total time(excluding naps, coffee, dinner, reading at LUVtruck.com)
What do you guys think? :D

Notes, this setup gives enough clearance for the choke valve to fully open.
The rubber fit around the outside of the sotck aircleaner's bottom round tube instead of the inside diameter.
Tested and drove the LUV and there is a slight reduction in noise from the engine bay but i couldn't feel a difference in perfrmance.

The new stickers on the carb might make them look closer at it, better hide 'em. The fabbing should work.

It doesnt really matter.

As long as your putting in the equivalant to the NGK BP6ES (.9mm gap) it will work. (BP6ES11 if its got electronic ignition, thats 1.1mm gap.) Always double check the gaps.

Personally i wouldnt buy anything but NGK, possibly Bosch plugs if theres no NGK. Would never fit a Champion plug * same with a Motorcraft one.

* except for my two stroke Victa lawn mower, only Champion make them.

Far-out! I love it too!!! I wonder what you used to cut the rubber coupling? I wonder if Home Depot has a shorter one?

Makes me wanna get a Weber too. Good Lord will it ever end?

Thanks for your contribution Sirjic.

I just used big straight cut tin shears for the rubber, straighter cut than a razor i think

I did basically the same kind of thing to my Luv.

I mounted a small hood scoop on my truck's hood, then made a steel plate to go underneath the hood to cover the hole in the hood that I cut for the scoop. In the center of the plate, I cut a big round hole and put a connector that I made from a roof vent that had a 3 inch outlet. Then I connected it to my weber model 38 with a section of flexible aluminum dryer hose and a rubber coupler that I clamped to a weber turbo adapter.

So now I have a hood scoop that forces air through a tube directly into my carb when I'm running down the road. For an air filter, I spent a whopping big $2.95 for a furnace filter and cut it to fit between the plate, the hole in my hood, and my scoop.

It took a little trial and error to figure out where to set my carb's fuel/air mixture, so now I'm running a tiny bit rich when i'm sitting still, but when I'm moving and I punch it, it definitely gets with the program.

I used a spare hood and I have my old wieand air filter and housing so I can switch back to that for wet weather driving, but for now it kicks butt and sounds pretty wicked when I put my foot in it on the freeway...lol

If anybody's curious about my setup, just holla at me and I'll post a few pic's for ya.
