I have a diff centre out of a 73 Luv, it has 41 teeth on the crown wheel and 8 on the pinion. What is this ratio? :?:

All I had ever heard about Isuzu 10 bolt diff gear ratios below 4.56 was 5.38s, usually found in some kind of van not sold in the US. That would be 43 teeth on the ring gear and 8 on the pinion. Could that have been a mismatched gear set? Seems like that wouldn't even work, but I've seen prior owners do some crazy things.

A 3 speed? Another thing we didn't have over here, unless you are talking about an automatic tranny or talking about a manual gearbox with a low low gear and then 1-3.

No good fitting it in a 4x4. The front diff is different and the transfer gear will go POP.

Ive never heard of a 3 speed.
Sounds a bit queer to me. Better take me a pic these things interest me.

That would be the WFR van 800xl. They also came in a 4x4 (WFS) version. Never saw that downunder.
Ive got factory workshop manuals here; 194mm 7.64" Isuzu diffs;

WFR Bus

The 41/8 5.125 was in the WFR10D that had the 1.6L 4ZA1 motor.

41/9 4.555 in most of them

43/9 4.777 in the one with the big diesel motor. (didnt get that down here either) and WFR Shuttle bus with an auto [4spd AW03-72L] trans.

KB21-KB29 Luv Pup and pickup. Diesel and Petrol.

4.555 if it was 1 ton.

41/10 4.100 if it was 0.5 ton

It does say in the 82 model book, Gas powered with G180Z has 4.1. Maybe it was a sports model and 500KG the ratio was in brackets.

Trooper ~88

4.555
But this had bigger tyres remember.

Impulse/Piazza

43/11 3.909
This had smaller tyres. 195/60/14 same rolling diameter as the I-mark.
Im upping the tyre size on my Piazza and im thinging about building up a 4.1 LSD to put in it.

Didnt some one say about the auto Luv. Wasnt it 4.3. We didnt get that here.

The 4.3 ratio was used in the 88~ pickup/trooper. These had the 220mm diff in the back but in the 4x4 they had the 194mm diff in the front.
You could mix and match, swap front to back i assume.

Thats about all the light i can shed.

Cheers, Bob.

I've heard gears from the front 10 bolt (194mm) Isuzu axle will not fit in a rear. As I've heard it, the ring gear is thicker and the pinion is offset in the front end design. The carriers are the same, so a rear LSD will fit in a front diff, but the gears are not interchangable. I have not seen both sets out and in person though.
