Has anybody thought of this or looked into it? Im kinda tired of changing out joints so often so i was thinking of trying to run standard 1310 joints. Only problem i see is that the yoke and drive flange would have to have some machine work done. So anybody else thought of this?

Seems like it should be possible, though if you have to machine out too much it might not leave enough metal behind and create a new weak point that you can't replace.

I've never had that much trouble with u-joints going bad though and I've been pretty hard on my truck at times. Makes me wonder if something else might be amiss, like the driveshaft being out of balance and making you go through them.

The 86-89 Isuzu Pup that normally runs an EFI 2.6 engine/5 speed transmission combination, and that puts out well over 125 hp, (which comes in a shortbed, longbed, extented cab, and a 4X4 version), uses the exact same u-joints as a Luv...so it is really doubtful it's the joints themselves that are causing the problem.

That Isuzu Pup running gear is the same transmission, driveline, and rear-end I've got in my '79 stepside. I'm running a de-smogged Impulse 1.9 with a delta re-ground cam, accel high-output coil, 50 amp alternator, electronic distributor/ignition module, pacesetter header, and a weber 38/38 with a weiand air filter....and I sure as hell don't baby it around town...and I've yet to brake a u-joint, even though I'm getting ready to put my second set of 245/60 15's on the back in less than a year.

It helps if you can get the greasable ones. Something as simple as a grease nipple can make some thing last a long time. Well thats if you grab a grease gun and use it.
