I'm getting my hands on a used 2.3 and a 5 speed out of an 86 pup and I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for more power. I was planning the typical hop-ups, shaving the head, better cam, weber carb, header, electronic ignition. Anyone know of any particular good combinations. This motor has 200k on it so its going to get the full rebuild so an overbore is probably in the works too. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Darrell

You might think about using a weber 38/38 instead of a 32/36 for a little more power if you are going to build it up. (I'm assuming you are going to use the older 2.3 carb intake for your engine. As far as I know...they bolt right on.)

With a good rebuild with all of the right parts included...it should be a strong fast runner.

Try to keep us all posted on your progress....as I'm sure there are quite a few members around here that are interested in doing the same conversion....me included.

Have fun and good luck!

the 2.3L will already have an electronic ignition, so theres not much upgrading you can do there. I would just grab a header for it, and continue on with what your talking about doing. 2.6L headers will fit the 2.3L so dont worry if you cant find 2.3L headers.
