I saw on a few other threads it was being discussed so I figured I would start up a topic about it.

Tell your tales of your troublesome tones or reminise about your rumbling rampaging LUV.

If you want to give some tips or little facts on how you constructed your pipes and tell us what muffler if any to see how  devilishley loud it was.

Great move to start a new thread. My pals and I put some side pipes on a 1942 Pontiac with a 428 in it. The pipes are hooked to the headers on the opposite side cause it's easier to hook em up that way. It sounds great. No road test yet 'cause we're still chopping. channeling, and sectioning everything.

Yeah I Agree W/ The New Tread Idea. So....Do They Make A Set For SBC? Or Something Thats Close To It. Make A Few Mods To Get It To Work.

I Am Still Thinking About My Hooker Super Comps Side Pipes For A 70-72 Camaro, There Like 2" Pipe Down To A 4-5" Pipe, If They Could Be Modified To Work....Would I Have Better Luck Either Starting A New, or Buying Hookers For A Luv and Merging Together The 2 Sets Of Headers

Pretty much, on a LUV, I think how I am going to do it is I will run normal block hugger headers, and then cross sides like mytmouz said, so I can have room for some glasspacks, and then I will probally put on some mooneyes lakepipes, we shall see.

I hooked mine up side for side but i hade the ram horn manifolds . I took one apart as much as i could to try and make them work as a header but they were plugged by the collector and i couldn't get to the plugs i have toyed with the idea of building a set from engine back.Hell if it only took 26 hours to build my headers it should be a piece of cake right. ( now that call's for a beer 8O what the hell am i thinking :? )I have some pic's of my headers if you want to see how to drive your self nuts.

I don't have any pic's of the side pipe set up as thats when i had the 283 engine setup in the truck, but i can tell you we rad the pipes through the torsion bars and frame to the pipes ,in fact i my still have them in storage but thats 200 miles away. They fit good and those pipes were loud when i was on the motor but it turned heads every where when i did. Thats why i thought of building a set to fit my engine combo. that i have now i will post a couple of pic's so you can see how the headers are now.

Blackluv, a little more info on your question please. If i'm reading it right, you are asking if they make sidepipes for a sbc. They are a muffler and will hook up to pretty much whatever. The part of my first post about crossing to the opposite side is because full length headers end further back than where the sidepipes start in most applications. This will keep you from having to U your header to sidepipe connections. If you use manifolds like tj did you wouldn't have to do this.

My headers are 3 piece with 2 & 3/8 tubes and 5 inch collectors. Sidepipes would be a bear.

Yeah and god awful loud to.My pipes are 2" and looking at it that would work pretty easy. 2-3/8" could probably be done but unless you need more torq. i don't see any gain.Come to think of it if you need more torq all you need do i guess is add more juice to it

I hope the guys with the 42 Pontiac are using a 428 Pontiac. I am a old Pontiac guy... One size fits all, if you know what I mean

Yep, it's Poncho powered. This has been a fairly straightforward project. I wish they were all as easy, easy being a relative term.

Post a few pics of it when they get it done, or whenever.

You might be in for a long wait. Other projects already in the pipeline are a 1967 firebird with 455 Poncho power, a 1958 Chevy Del Ray with a Small block stroker, 3 deuces, and a 4 speed, a 1969 SS Chevelle, a 1967, Malibu, a street luv, 1965 fleetside chevy with a 383, a 1966 stepside with a bigblock, and a 1968 nova Yenco clone. These are all running with new engines except for the 2 Chevelles, all in various stages of reassembly. The problem is deciding which one to complete.

I'm sorry for being off topic, just answering a post. At least one of them does have sidepipes!

I guess we could PMed, but we didn't get carried away.

Relvent Post.
Any one herd 180 deg circle track headers? A frend of ours ran a SBC in a 66 Mustang with these because his dad had them, from his circle track stuff, had them... Boy what a different in sound. He didn't run mufflers, so I don't know what they would have sounded on the street.

The longer the muffler the quiter it should be. We would take 6 cylinder mufflers on each side of a v8, we thought it would flow more......Many years ago in the 60's. I have no Idea if it really did work.
