hey my friend has a 1985 isuzu pu'p 4x4 and we think the motor is about to kick the bucket and we were wanting to know what is the best way of going about swapping it. he would like to put a 4.3 v6 in it and switch the 4.3 to carb. what we dont know is the transmission and tranfer case hook ups. and were thinking about putting the engine, tranny, and xfer case out of an s10 or something in it. any help would be greatly appreciated

Tranny and Cross Member Mounts Would Be Interesting To Make, I'd Have To Think About That One

But As Far As Frame Mounts For The Egine You Would Either Make Some Close To The V8 Mounts and Just Make Them Shorter and Mount Them Farther Back on The Frame

You Could Also Buy A Set of Hooker V8 Swap Frame Mounts and Use Summits/Trans-Dapt Performance Products Swap Engine Mounts Along With Them (SBC to 4.3 and Vise Versia)

This However Would Mean Solid Motor Mounts, So It May Not Be The Best Choice. Prob Would Actually Be The Way I Would Go, But Again Not Best Recommendation.

Wait That May Not Work With A 85, I'm Not Sure If The Frames Are The Same of Older Models.

well crossmembers is not really an issue i used to work for a hot rod shop where we built motormounts and crossmembers for ls1 conversions into muscle cars. and i am still good friends with the guy and frequently use his shop. my main issue is trying to figure out if we can swap the motor and still use the original isuzu tranny and xfer case or what all we have to change over

I Don't Think So, The 4.3 Uses The Same Bolt Configuration As A V8 Chevy. You Would Have To Pull A Transmission and Transfer case Out of Something W/ A 4.3 or Chevy V8.

1985 model.

What frame its on will depend on what gearbox is in it. 4 or 5 speed???

4 speed will be same mounting points as a Luv.

5 speed is the same mounting points for the engine but the tranny x-member is different. Its not an integral part of the chassis, it bolt in if my memory is right. Easier to sort for a conversion.

I would change the box, 4.3L is a fair increase over std and a big ask on an Isuzu box. But i bet someone in the world somewhere makes an adapter plate for that conversion.

Personally i would put a later 2.6L motor into it, convert it back to a carb motor with a 2.3L manifold and distributor. A bit of a cam and it will go allright.

Bob.

it is a 4 speed and i suggested putting a 2.8 in it and he said if he is going through the hassle of putting a new engine in it he wants to put a 4.3 in it

Get the 4.3 and the whole setup that includes the t-body injection wiring and computer out of a donor trk and you would be better off and don't be afraid of the injection part as it is real simple to hook up.

i know the throttle body isnt that bad but he doesnt want to switch it over which is good for me cause i have a 86 fullsize chevy that has a built motor getting about 6 miles to a gallon that could really use that throttle body set up. and i already have all the adapters to convert it

Ok So It Does Have The Old Luv Style Frame Good, Should Make It A Little Easier. I Understand Where Your Coming From, So in That Case. Just Use The Use The 4.3 700R4(Most Likely If Factory, Unless 4L60E) Combo. Then It Would Mainly Be A Matter of Fabrication and Getting Everything To Work, Far As Drive Shafts and Diffs. Should Be A Interesting Build I Would Love To See Pics
