I was talking to a guy at the dragstrip with a luv. He said that hooker headers shorties for 70 to 81 camaro small block works fine and that is what he runs and reccommended for me.

So none of the shorties will be bothered by the frame or torsion bars. Will the shorties actually show much gain over a stock exhaust or the old ramhorn 2 1/2 inch exhaust

Short block huggers will work better than ram horns . The best performance will be long tubes . Block huggers good on a budget . The muffler shop dude will have to pay attention or you'll have clearence problems with the oil filter and starter . The pipes go above the torsion bars and torsion bar cross member . I have 2.5" pipe with removable tail pipes and 1.75" tube size.

What are the headers that Hooher makes for the Luv swap? Are they not comp headers? or super comp?

Yes they are super comp. They are almost $400. They have 1 3/4 tubes and will make more power and torque than shorties.

They are hooker super comps. ythey set for my 406 didnt fit too well and just werent working out right so hooker custom welded a set for mine. Now, that was back in the 90's so i dont know if they would do it anymore

Mine had a problem too. I used the Hooker mounts with the Hooker headers and the passenger side header collector flange was riding against the torsion bar. I had to slip a fence post deep into the collector and tweak the header inwards to gain some clearance. It took a while to do it cause i didn't want to damage the header.

i am using shorty headers and custom mounts, and i had serious clearance issues! I am having to use a 90 degree angle and new collectors to make them clear the cross member and whatnot!

I dont think a 90 degree angle would flow too well, lol. I might take some pictiures of mine for yall if you want. but If you get an exhaust kit any good exhaust shop should be able to fab you up somthing that would flow better than that. You probobly have some crazy EGT's too with it set up that way.

Ezekiel duck, I've got a set of shorty headers for an s-10 lying around. They have the exhaust exiting at the rear instead of the center like a lot of shorty hearers i have seen. That may be worth looking into.

Wouldn't The Loop On The S10 Headers For The Steering Rod Cause A Slight Obstruction With A LUV? I'm Probally Way Wrong But Just A Thought.

The ones I have don't have any loops. All 4 tubes on each side come back to the rear of the engine. I don't know if they will fit a luv, I was suggesting he could see if someone local with a S-10 might have some he could look at. Sorry about the confusion.

My shortie headers are fine. I have home made motor mounts and I don't have any tight bends.

well iknow that a guy on here used the s10 fenderwell headers on his luv. i havnt seen anything done with s10 shorties. im pretty sure that they would not clean the frame and probably dump right above the torsions.

now with the block huggers its not really a hard 90deg angle. its more of like flowing curve. on both of lees trucks and codys truck we used the block huggers and 2 1/2in pipe right off the headers and it flowed just fine. anthonys is im pretty sure going to be the same. unless he got different headers and didnt tell me...

both summit and jegs carry a long tube header for small block luv, i didnt like them because of how they got in the way of the spark plugs so i bought a set of 80's G body headers from headman and they fit perfect!!!
