Hey everybody, I bought a turbo 350 today. Its going to need rebuilt but I only paid 50.00 bucks for it. Is that a good price. Also is it very hard to rebuild them and how much do rebuild kits cost. Any help would be great. Does anyone know of a web site that could help me rebuild it. Thanks

If your not familiar with rebuilding automatic transmissions, you might just want to take it to a reputable transmission shop and have them fix you up. If you know somebody that knows exactly what he's doing, not somebody who says he knows what he's doing, Then swing a deal with them to work your trans. I had a guy work on my trans and it didn't work that good. Every time i took a left turn, it would vent fluid out and hit the exhaust pipe creating a cloud of smoke. It didn't want to kickdown to pass. But it only cost me 75 dollars for a kit. Reworking a tranny should be a "Get it right the first time" deal. They're deep into the vehicle so it 's never a breeze to remove.

this is an idea that may not be good in your neck of the woods. Here in spokaloo there is a guy (and there was one in seattle) that all they do all day is rebuild TH350's. He said once you get them down, you can do 3 or 4 a day. he has shift improver kits in some, some are stock. he only puts the shift improver kits in the structurly sound ones.

this guy doesnt advertise. He is just there. In seattle, i had my whole ford 9 narrowed, resplined, etc.. and the center section rebuilt by reputable guys that dont advertise. And it was cheap.

How can u use this? you have to ask around. . dont go to a wannabe auto parts and ask questions, go to one that has hi performance parts and help. ask if they know 'someone who'.... if there is someone who can help, find him.

i paid $350 for a TH 350 with a badd shifter in it. dont know if this will help, but over the long haul of a rebuilt it helps to know quality affordable help in case you dont want to screw with certain things.

Installing a shift improver kit alone is doable by yourself.

later

Ive seen a few of those trans rebuilt. There are a ton of parts. You could do it if you have a manual or book and a very large and very clean bench. And it would help to have a mechanical mind.

Speaking of TH 350 transmissions, Can the newer one without the kickdown cable be used without the computer? How does the kickdown work? Is there a kit that must be installed to get the trans to basicly function correctly?

the newer trannys without the TV cables have to have a computer to control its shifts points because it uses a electronically controlled valve body. I remember somebody made a aftermarket controller if u wanted to retrofit the newer tranny, but i dont remember who made it. As for rebuilding one, I wouldn't even try if u can't get some of the special tools you will need. I rebuilt my 700r4 at home and it was pain in ass having to take different parts to school or the local shop just to take em apart and put em back together. I build newer ford trannys all day long at work and one thing i l've learned is that just a little dirt or trash can fry one on our test stands in about 5 min.

Oh and there are some people out there that will come unglued if u refer to a TV cable as a kickdown. They're just buncha baby's, but technically they are right.
