I've been given a '90 S-15 GMC with a 2.2L and a 5 speed. The body is wells used but the motor is rebuilt with only 34K. The measurements make it look like an easy swap with just some new mounts for engine and tranny. Then again, the Eifell Tower looked simple on paper. Anyone ever done this swap before? Have any advice?

I'm hoping to gain a little HP and an engine I can find parts and service for. When I yank it I think I'll add a header to it just for better mileage and a little more HP. I looked forever for a header for my 1.8 series four. I'd seen them on ebay back when I wasn't looking for one. Anyway, the S-15 is heavier than the LUV and it scoots pretty good. In the LUV it should do better.

the 90 s-15 came with a 2.5L 8 valve throttle body injected 4 banger, they didnt use the 2.2 until 94. the 2.5 has 105 hp@4800 rpm and 135 ft-lbs of torque @3200 rpm. flowtech and pace setter make headers for it, also superchips claims a 16 hp gain and an extra 30ft-lbs of torque with their chip.
those trucks were pretty hefty too so with the 5 spd in a luv youd be doing pretty good.
:D

My buddies S10 and my son's Saturn Ion have that same eng. It's not a rocket but it's "peppy".

i checked. It is the 2.5L I think I forgot to mention my commute is 90 miles per day round trip. this is the main reason I don't plop in the 305 in my backyard. that plus the fact it is very stock and looks good that way. I'm sending the drums off to have them converted to the Isuzu 6 lug pattern.

if you could get all the computer BS figured out that'd engine would be a great little "flat-flyer". I say that becuase if you hit a hill...well, you know. I saw one of those up at Bandi runnin 9's, heavily modded of course but i heard the stock rotation assem takes a turbo quite well.

I say it is a great choice. Will you be going fuel injected if so many wiring company's will make a custome harness for you.

Just found a stock '77 to add to my LUV harem. This will make three. It's a decent truck with good compression and thirty years of wear. The only problem is someone painted it pink with a housepaint brush. Looks like hours in the garage with a heatgun. As for the motor swap, we're going to do that first. Actually, if I put a five speed on the pink LUV I'd get my mileage and could drop the 305 in the red LUV. Decisions

Lmao!

No doubt...

If you drove that around here, unless you was some old broad that has bleached-blond hair, long fake figernails, dressed like a hoochy mamma, wore a lot of makeup and too much cheap perfume, and was trying to sell Mary Kay cosmetics to redneck women in the backwoods small towns, I just can't see much practical use in the Great Northwest for any old truck that is brush-painted bright pink.

So painting it real quick is probably a good call...lol

budbondo,

I'm in Central Texas. Probably too far to be worrth coming out for the S-15. Besides, I'll need something to drive while I strip the pink panther and primer it. The pink paint is kind of hilarious, though. I'd love to have a 400 small block in there to trash some fart cans out here on these Austin highways. Nothing like a Honda or Mitsubishi in the rear view mirror getting smaller.

Especially with a bright booby-pink brush-painted truck...now that would be pretty humiliating for a ricer racer to get his butt whooped by that.

But funny as hell though...I would go for it.
