I was wondering if the (Calmin) limited slip case will bolt up to the 79 4x4 luv ring gear front and rear?

I don't think so, the one they sell I believe is for the Isuzu 12 bolt axle, so unless they say it's for a 10 bolt Isuzu axles, it will not work

Yea they do say that, but since the gear(calmin) casing has 10 bolts for the ring gear, and the casing from an 82 pup is 10, then i would think it would line up,i have an 89 pup, ill just have to compare the 82 ring, and casing to the 89's ring and casing. But you also have to think, did they keep the same gearcasing for an open diff as well in the 89(but just adding the necessary LS guts?). My truck is beggin for LS.

If they say it is for the Isuzu 10 bolt axle then it will work on your Luv, same axle, the Luv was built by Isuzu for Chevy, everything on it is pure Isuzu.

Ok I checked out Calmini's site and found that the limited-slip they have listed for the Pick-up is for the 12 bolt axle, will not work on the Luv. what you want is over under the Trooper section, it's part #IP-411S, this is the limited slip for the 10 bolt axle.

According to 800xl, you can get the gears out of the 3rd member out the troopers. I'd like to do this upgrade as long as the Calmini kit is avaible.
Although my engine rebuild is going to come first, got save for that.

Anyone know if someone has tried this gearing swap, or swaped in
a rear end from a Trooper?

No, i was going to try to swap in an 86 Trooper third. It didnt look the same, the bolts that hold the trooper third were the same all the way around, if you look at a LUV third, the bottom two or three bolts run almost the entire length of the third...
Do you follow or am i just spouting off a bunch of un-inteligable crap again...

Hmmm...drain for the diff??? I'll have to have a looky...I'd imagine that they are compatible though....Isuzu didn't do much in terms of screwing around with weird axles (with the exception of the 87 Trooper, some were 10/10 with the 2.3 others were 10/12 with the 2.6 and others were 8/10 with the 2.3 I think)

The troop 3rd has a drain plug on the bottom just like the LUV, I think the axle case is just a little different. I haven't looked to see the difference Meep's talking about but I still think it can be done without redoing the gear setup to swap ring and pinion. I'll need to figure it out eventually for my 79, gonna need 4.56s for my 2.6L/5spd LUV on 31s or 33s.

MEPR: Man, my 4x4 makes all other LUVs look good

800xl, look at your 77 and then the 79, they should be a little different
there is a difference between my 78 and my 80, but the 80 will go in the 78, had to use longer bolts on the bottom

The only real difference in the luv/pup/trooper 10 bolt diffs ive found is the hand/emergency brake setup. With the brake lever change the brake shoes also changed. The spring plates are different, some have the springs center bolt as part of the spring plate (trooper i think it was) others have the centre bolt as a fixture in the spring.

The early trooper/pup had a single pull cable back to the diff piviot, a cable to each wheel one short to the front of the LH wheel and a long one to the rear of the RH wheel. Both backing plates were the same.
The later setup for the trooper/pup was still single pull but both the short and long cables went to the front of the brake mechanisim, these got less cable stretch. The WFR van (Shuttle) had this on all models.
The luv had twin cables from under the floor to the rear wheels.

If my memory is right the change in the trooper from 10 to 12 bolt was 7/87. That was with the 2.6L motor. Id say the pup was the same, if you went for the 2.3L motor you only got the 10 bolt.

Not sure about anything earlier than 79 because thats the oldest ive got.

Cheers, Bob.
