Okay guys, I installed the electronic ignition that Kuranosuke sold me with the rebuilt G200, but I've got no spark whatsoever.

I connected the ignition wire that used to go to the ballast resistor to the wire from the module that had a single-wire plug and did NOT go to the coil.
I connected the ground wire to the mounting bracket and verified it has a good solid ground.
The wires from the module were already connected to a coil, so I left them connected and installed the "new" coil, too.
I swapped distributors and plugged in the pickup plug.

Now...

I have 12v from the black w/yellow ignition wire to the yellow module wire.
I have nearly 12v on the coil - and just a little less on the coil +.
The pickup coil changes electrical characteristics as the distributor turns. (I had the multimeter across it before I installed the distributor).

I just get absolutely no spark from the coil. I put my timing light in the coil to rule out the cap and rotor.

Any ideas?

Does anyone have the spec for the reluctor to pickup clearance?
At one point I removed the pickup to try my best at testing it, so I'm sure I messed the clearance up. I just set it as close as I could without having them touch.

I hate to have to go back to points as I modified the coil holder bracket to hold the electronic ignition by welding on the bracket from the donor vehicle and it will be a struggle to change back to the ballast resistor.

On a positive note, I may have found a cheap source for ignition modules should I have to buy a new one. $99 for the module at http://autopartsgiant.com. Look for part # E5050, LX-690, or E1903C. They are different part numbers from different manufacturers, but they all cross-reference on http://napaonline.com to the ECHTP167. I don't know why the E5050 is only 1/3 the price.

I've got more wires than that.

My module is more like the one described in the Series 12 in 10 article except for the color of a couple of the wires.

THe module has wires that go to the + and - of the coil, the pickup coil and then some for power, ground, and the other one is to plug in to an engine speed sensor that isn't present until 82.

The ignitor is a Nippondenso 131100-2561.

Does anyone have specs on how to test the pickup coil accurately?
I"m still looking for the clearance spec, too.

I've got the following wires:

Black - to Coil -
Brown - to Coil + (this has a spare wire/connector on the end which is not connected)
Yellow - to truck's Ignition (Black w/Yellow)
Red/White pair to pickup coil
Ground to ground

I read on the MSD ignition page that you can test (at least the MSD) ignition by removing the pickup wire connection and shorting/breaking the pins and it should spark every time the connection is broken. This does not cause my ignition to fire.

I purchased the E5050 ignitor from APG and new pickup coil.

Same problem!

I get power on both sides of the coil with the key on and no spark with the engine cranking.

Is everyone sure the conversion instructions on this site are good? Does the power really go to the wire that comes directly from the ignitor? Or am I connected to the wrong wire?

Now that I own two ignitors I'm thinking of connecting the ignition (from key) circuit to the other wire that was running from the coil eyelet. I've nothing to lose at this point. Either I've connected it wrong or I received a defective ignitor and will have to exchange it.

The instructions in the Information section need to be replaced.

I connected the ignition power lead to the other plug and it fired right away. I just wish I had tried that before I plopped down the hundred smackeroos on the new ignitor.

I will take some pictures of what I've got and provide an updated conversion guide...eventually.

Until then...The Black w/Yellow ignition wire goes to the coil +, not the wire coming right out of the ignitor. Neither plug is used--or cut the plug off the wire coming out of the ignitor and solder it to the Black/Yellow and plug it into the other lead which goes to the coil + and the ignitor.

The posted instructions had me hook the ignition power lead (from key) to the wrong wire.

It also mentions using the Black/Red wire which used to go to the points. This wire is unused after the conversion.
