Starter kept killin' out after being driven cause it was getting too hot and leaving me stranded. Replaced the first one cause I thought it was defective and the replacement starter started doing the same thing. So, I bought a new starter today from Jeg's that weighs 8.5 lbs. and is supposed to be "hot start" proof - for $250 it better! Anybody else have this problem? The way the guy did my exhaust, the bottom of the starter was only about 2" from the pipe (at best) so, I'm hoping this high torque thingie starter will do the trick.

I guess you have a v-8

A lot of chevy trucks used a metal shield between the starter and the exhaust pipe. you could see if you could find one in a junk yard. You could use some exhaust wrap-header wrap. I don't really like it because it will cause painted or bare metal to rust a lot quicker.

Here is something you could make. Thaka piese of sheet metal cut to fit, then use a couple of u-bolts the size that will fit the pipe and bolt to pipe. Use nuts on both sides of the sheat metal so you can space the sheetmetal away from the pipe.

You could also get a larger (3"-4") pipe, split it and do ths same thing.

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.
