I have gone to someone who rebuilds alternators & bought a one wire alternator for maybe 40-50 dollars. then you use the heavy gauge charging wire with a diode in line & you're done. hope that helps.

This might help you, it might not too, the last post has the info you want. The start of the thread is about putting an internal reg on the G-series motor.

8O Why are you putting a diode in the charge wire you don't need one.You run a 10 gauge wire from the alternator to the battery hook up on the starter and you are done. All alt. have 12V hooked up full time.

all alt. have 12 volts hooked up all the time, but also have power from ign. switch to turn internal regulator on or off. i was told that a one wire alt. needed diode to keep current from flowing from batteryto alt. when motor is not running. otherwise it could run battery down.

I guess what I'm tring to do is go from external regulator to internal regulator . and still have the factory gen light work . My manual is hard to read , as it seems to have been downsized from the original . I have a GM 3-wire internal regulator alternator now and was going to buy the one wire conversion from the tractor parts dept. to make it one wire .

O.k. I had the one wire alternator and it burnt up . I had a spare three wire for my 68 c-10 build , so I bought the plug thing to make it self excited . It is working good , but working it's ass off/feels hot . Now my gen light is on all the time . I would like to have this work like it should .
