I've heard that the early 80's Chevy 4.3 liters are somewhat easy to put in but I am not sure if you need some type of adapter.

In theory, newer Isuzu motors should bolt up. There are 2.0 and 2.2L 4cyls. I've never tried it myself, and most people seem go V6 or V8 so there are not a lot of others doing it either. I'd take a hard look at your LUV motor and trans, then hit a couple junkyards until you find a mid-80s Isuzu Pickup or Trooper and look them over. In a perfect world, the 2.2L motor and 5Spd transmission/t-case would be a bolt in swap. That is what I've been thinking of doing, but time and funding for the project are lacking. Its hard to tear down your daily driver on "it should fit". :)
