Hi just a few question real quick maybe someone can help me decipher this stuff. I am trying to look up what kind of engine I have I mean I know it's a 283. I have went to a couple of places that show engine codes and all but I have a few other questions. The casting number on the block is 3789935 I have found that so far and it has said that it's for a 61 or later car or Vette. The heads are stamped 3795896 havent found much on them the last thing I would like toknow is what the # is on the front of the engine it is stamped FII09D but Im not sure if it is a zero or an "O" but I cant seem to figure this one out! would love to find out what I got here. thanks

My book says your block is from a 58-61 truck or passenger car and the heads 63-72. it shows the heads as going on 283, 307, and 327. Bryan

ben thanx for that sight. Ive needed to run some #'s recently and didnt have a clue where to look. Ended up with some book. I had a pair of camel humper heads off an early 60's vette. the chambers were like 62.7 cc. Pretty small!

husker i got out my lil white book on chev suffix codes and from the # stamped in front it says it a 283 out of the early 60's impala if that helps these book i got are so cool and small enought to take to the wrecking yards and swap meets.they are from MSA-1 inc. po box 168 G pleasent Hill MO 64080 for orders 1-800-600-6721
