Background: 350 ci / turbo 350 transmission, engine bay is vacant at this point with v8 engine and transmission sitting on stand in garage. Looking to get all parts needed and have a question.

Hooker's instructions state:

8. Install throttle cable and pedal assembly. A 1965-77 Ford or 1968-77 Camero assembly is suggested.

Is it suggested why? Will the stock Luv pedal assembly work? What has everyone else used and had the best success with?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

I guess they think the stock pedal doesn't have enough travel?

Dunno for sure, but I'm using the stock pedal on mine. I think I did have to remove that throttle stop from the floor board though.

i dont think they mean get the whole pedal assembly. i think theyre just sayin get the throttle cable. on both of lees trucks we use one of those universal autozone throttle calbles and brackets with the stock pedal. woked fine. i personally didnt like the autozone cable cuz it started binding after like a month of use. try finding a throttle cbale from a first gen s10. they work pretty damn good. you could prolly pick one up from a junkyard for like 5 bux.

I used a universal cable from Auto Zone and it works fine. I do have an issue with my setup but it's because of the previous cable assy i used for the Buick V-6. To get the Buick working, i had a cable from a Chevette that i modified to fit and i tweaked the pedal to obtain enough travel. Now with the V-8/Holley assy, there's too much travel and the pedal sits higher than before. I can fix this but i haven't been that annoyed with it yet.

Keep in mind that the Hooker instructions are 20 years old. It's still valuable information to keep you from screwing things up but it's information thats based on a mid-80's idea. Such as the radiator mod. 4-coring a stock radiator was a hot setup at the time but it isn't practical today with aluminum 2 core units readily available.

I used the stock pedal and a Lokar cable. Had to tweak on the pedal but wasnt to hard and works great.
