I might have misunderstood what you said but did you say you had a 10 bolt rear end narrowed? Hey Blue meanie looks like you might have your calipers figured out.

As for me, I have yet to have it narrowed...I still needed to decide the inside flange to flange measurement; I only get to cut this thing once if you know what I mean....

Looks like bluemeanie lists having a 9" in his signature below...

Im not trying to sound dumb but why would you waste your time and money to narrow a 10 bolt?

No! Unless you have 12-bolts in bulk...
I got the disc axle for 175.00 complete; felt that that was a good buy!
9inchers are fine but I wanted to keep it using similar GM stuff so I can order parts without freaking out the parts guy and by using common parts that can be found

10 bolts are like time bomb waiting to self destruct. Not only that when you break an axle the chances of sending your truck to the body shop increase.

Here is a good article for a good rear end swap. I bought a rear end like the one in the article and plan on doing pretty much the same thing only mine didnt come with disc brakes so thats where my conversion listed above comes into play.

I showed this thread to a friend of mine who runs a driveline shop called Coast driveline and gear. He has been in the business for 20t years. You may have seen some of his work in several mags. He also builds all the vette diffs for Newman racing and several other teams, not to mention he is the only diff man for Fabtech. Not only that, he is the largest eaton gear seller on the west coast. To sum up his answer to this 10 bolt and ford 8.8 rear ends, "If you don't have the time or money to do it right the first time, when will you?". "8.8 rear ends are not as strong as many think, I have several in the back of my shop to prove this point". All I am saying is to really think about what you want for the long run.

I spoke to one of the guys at Summers Bros when I was redoing a 12-Bolt posi out of one of my Camaros. He really didnt want to get into rebuilding 10 or 12-Bolts back to stock as he felt that the C-clip was the weakest pointe in that design thus allowing the opportunity for the axle to come apart under HI demands. He really only wants to build racing C-clip eliminator set-ups , etc .....
I just heard that I possibly can get an Eaton, or maybe it was another brand, having a 30 spline posi unit, then all Id need is to have axles purchased with the 30 splines and shortented to my axle housing.
Going to go look into this....

Anything can be broken...

The 12-bolt is an 8.875, correct? Having 30 spline axles.

The 10-Bolt I am going to use has the 8.5 ring gear, and 28 spline axles.

For me, the 8.5 is an upgrade from the 7.5.
For what I am asking it to do, I feel it will be sufficient.
I am not going all out racing, my application will be more for daily transportation, with the ability to handle the power and the fact that I can add the rear discs at a reasonable cost.
You can use these discs set-ups I suggested on a 12-Bolt, if you have one.

Ill add a post later on after I have installed mine.

Lets see 10 bolt, millions on the road in 4500 +lbs cars and trucks&vans, many are drag raced and live, i fail to see a problem with a 10 bolt in a 2600 lbs truck,if you want more security install c-clip eliminators drive and enjoy.
