5 speed swap is done. Just a few more tweaks and it going for a drive tonight. it is NOT just a bolt in swap but not that bad. Will let you know how my sons 4x gets down the road in 5th and if there is enough power to keep it there one our hilly Mo hiways.
If I can will do a step by step recall as how it went in. next up in the future the 2.6 Isuzu engine is going in.

Sounds like the later model chunk might be the way to go. While you are there, get the old speedometer gear if you can.

I'm in the process of dropping in an Impulse G200 in my truck...and I'm looking around for a good running 2.6 and a decent 2.3 carb intake to drop in by the end of summer.

I think in the 2.6 I'm going to put in a delta cam, a 2.3 carb intake, a header, and a weber 38/38 I have, etc....which hopefully should push me up to about 150 hp at the rear wheels, since the stock 2.6 with all of the smog stuff attached puts out about 125hp.

I just have to figure out how to wire up the 2.6's ignition stuff so I don't have to do a complete computerized wiring harness conversion in my truck to get it to run.

For you, the jump from 75hp with smog, a stock carb, points ignition, stock exhaust, a 4speed transmission, etc....to around 150hp with a 5speed, newer rearend, electronic ignition, a weber, and a beefier clutch should be real fun to drive.

Sounds like you are headed in the right direction...good luck!
