 Post subject: valve cover gasket

so after sitting for 10 years in someones elses hands i get this thing running. worked great for about a month. now it leaks oil like a son of a gun. i figured out its the valve cover. Can i just pull it off and permitex the crap out of it or do i have to get a new gasket?

Replace the gasket, if it leaks and you try to patch it, it will leak again.

If your only leak is a valve cover, count your blessings and pony up for a gasket.
And a light film of Permatex wouldn't hurt...

use the rubber gasket not the cork gasket

Get the gasket, Hmmmm , I prefer the cork . Can take the cover again and if you have to and not hurt the gasket. Just don't overtork either one for sure.
