Eagle sells a 383 drop in crank that has smaller diameter counterweights. You usually don't have to notch the block for clearance. It can also come internally balanced so you can use the factory 350 stuff. I'm sure there are other manufacturers that have the same thing, I just know for sure Eagle does.

I'm with mytmouz get it balanced . It only cost me $150 for the last one. Some of the early 638 blocks have the fuel pump hole . All of the 880 blocks I have seen are cast over . The later model powdered metal rods are strong hell . I have run these before . The later blocks allow you to run a hydraulic roller cam . I have always wondered about drilling one for the fuel pump rod .

:? Check around there are allot of engine building out fits that have complete 383 engine kits balanced internal or external. My advise on these kits is make sure that you get the 5.7 rods or longer and not the 400 5.565 rods and if you want max torq then get the 6: rods and you can get higher RPM's with out killing the motor. Build a 406 with 6" rods and kill the ricers
