The drivers side axle is binding up. I suspect that it's a bit too long for the new housing. I tightened the backing plate bolts and the axle was really tight to rotate. The axle man made that tube cut about 1/16 shorter that the old one and he said to make sure it's ok before i get too deep. The wear marks on the spline were a bit shallow so i thought it had room to fit. So i got to take the axle back to Killeen and get the axle man to chuck it up on the lathe and fix'er up.
Minor setback........That's what i keep telling myself. Someday, i will be driving again.

It took 2 trips to the axle man to get things to fit. And now it's raining.
Tomorrow i should be able to finally finish this project.

Right off the bat, i had a problem with the original u-bolts. I couldn't seat them down far enough to start both the lock washers and nuts. So after some finaggling, i ended up stripping one of the threads.
Off to the parts store for new u-bolts. Had to go to 2 stores to get 4 each. I took my sweet-assed time about the whole thing and i even drove to Killeen to buy new tools at Sears.
Drove the truck in a 5 mile loop and it feels pretty smooth. I'll need to go over all the hardware again tomorrow but im gonna call it DONE!!!

I got a small leak at one of the bottom nuts on the 3rd member. It leaks at the nut itself. I tried tightening it down some more but it still leaks. I didn't use the copper crush washers on the assy. Standard washers worked well enough on the other axle so i thought i could do the same on this one. I guess i'll try and swap out the washers with the copper ones and see if it kills the leak.

No biggie...
