as long as the Pup's rear end is a 10 bolt, yup should just fit right in w/ no mods

I'm talking about the Isuzu 10 bolt. come on we're dealing with Isuzu's here not Chevys (Luv may be labled a Chevy but it's an Isuzu through and through)

When you are talking Isuzu rears they come in 2 basic models, 10 bolt and 12 bolt, that have nothing to do with S10s or GM corporate 10 bolts. The bolt count is actually what is on the ring gear inside. Both have a dropout third member but they do not interchange between 10 and 12. Some Isuzu rigs do have a GM corporate axle under them, or a Dana 44, but those are Rodeos and Amigos. Pickups (LUV included) and Troopers all came with an Isuzu 10 or 12 bolt

If your 89 has drum brakes it will have a 10 bolt Isuzu rear, same as an 80 LUV though with a couple slight differences in the brakes and ebrake cable. If you have rear disc brakes, it will be a 12 bolt Isuzu. You should be able to get either to fit in under the truck, but if you are changing between 10 and 12 the pinion yoke is a little different and it might mean a trip to a driveline shop to swap ends.

I guess a good question would be what is wrong that makes you want to swap? If you already have a 12 bolt, a 10 bolt is substantially weaker so it would not be a good path unless your 12 bolt is broken, the 10 bolt is cheap/free, and you HAVE to get it moving again. If you are just looking for different gearing or something like that, gears are available for both in most all the same ratios. Some are fairly rare, depending on the ratio and the rear end. 4.56 and 4.10 for either are very common though.

i don't have to worry bout it, i have a 14 bolt (think about that one  ) i was asking for someone on another forum. i have an '80 rear that he wants to put into an '89 pickup. i figured there would be an easier way to determine the style of it than by counting bolts on the inside of the diff :? but whatever. so the basic difference is '89+drums=10 bolt .......or.........'89+disc=12 bolt. i'll have to ask him.

thanks
