Ok im in need of some help here... The rear end thazt is currently on my rolling chassis is, imo, unidentified...

I was told it was off a dodge dakota with a 318 v8... we took it apart and it has 3.92 gears, which seem to match the possibility of being a dodge...

In my recent search for a locker i've seen pics and instructions on installation for the dakota, and its not what i have....and the fact that the tag was completly rotted off doesnt help... Im just REALLY confused now... I mean, I'd like to lay my hands on a nice locker, but i kinda need to slove the mystery of what the heck it is...

Let me desribe....

I looks alot like the stock LUV rear end in the sence that it has 6 lugs, it is not a c-clip axle, the gear chunk is held in with the same number of bolts( i think, i may be wrong), its physical appearance is very similar to the stock LUV's and as far as the brakes the shoes have the same arch but are about a half inch to an inch wider.

The differences....

The input shaft is not centered but set off to the passanger side a bit and the driveshaft mounting flange is on a slightly larger bolt circle that the LUV's. The total width from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface is about 6 or so inches wider than the Luv's, the spring perches are set out a half inch wider on each side than the LUV. The drums are obviously a little wider, and where the drum meets the axle, the axle sticks out of the drum a little, whereas the LUV's does not. Also there is no drum retaining screw. And last but not least, the brake lines are run in a weird fashion. The line is run fom the rubber hose to the drivers side brake, then where the bleeder is supposed to be, another line is run from the driver side to the passanger side and the bleeder is over there...

Does anyone have any ideas? Is this really from a dakota??
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

~Aaron

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.
