The specs I have for that motor are 80-HP@4800-rpm so i'm geussin that's the redline but if you had some stiffer valve springs and stronger crank rods you could get a higher redline out of it.

take it up to when it vibrates really bad and sounds like it's going to fly apart then back off 500rpm.

Honestly though, unless you've had it rebuilt recently I wouldn't push a stocker anywhere near redline... unless you are looking to rebuild or replace it. fear of bad things happening keeps my stock truck rpm's down :D

Lugging an import 4 cylinder motor is almost as bad as over revving it in some ways. These little motors make most of their power up where a lot of bigger motors are sounding like they are coming apart. Personally I like to wind mine out a bit more than I probably should. My 77 will pull 65 in third without sounding like bits are coming apart. I've been driving it like that for 15 years and haven't had the motor apart at all other than to adjust the valves. The prior owner of that motor was much harder on it than I am, and I just stuck it in the truck and figured to get as many miles out of it as I could. I've seen 000000 on the odometer twice since then. Your high revving mileage may vary ;)
