will one of these trans fit in the stock LUV tunnel or does it need heavy hammer massaging or worst case of cut out and refit some sheet metal, my current th350 just gave out behind the 383 and just checking my options, future does call for a 671 that has been in basement since jan., boy do i hate to see dust collecting on it!!!

thanks in advance

well don't bank on my words, but they both have about the same size casing. One thing that is diffrent is the back of the trani, where the drive line goes in. The th400 has a fatter shaft, so your drive line will not slide in. Plus I believe the 400 is a little shorter. Good luck, and I am sure someone else can probably fill you in more on this subject. Later T.

TH400 should bolt in place of a TH350 with no other mods to the trans tunnel. However, the TH400 is 2" longer thant the 350 so the driveshaft will have to be shortened.

Keep in mind that although the TH350 is a little weaker than the 400, it is more efficient. you can expect to lose about .2 sec off your ET by going to the 400.

I got a TH400 sittting behind a Buick 3.8 V6. It fits fine. In my installation I had to slightly "adjust" the tranny hump on the floor pan, nothing major.

A transbrake makes your car launch more consistently at the drag strip. Also some suspensions (like 4 links) like to be shocked on the launch in order to make them work to their full potential. using it on the street... no benefit while sitting at a light flexing on a Mustang. I had a hipster brake in my TH350 for the strip but always footbrake launches on the street. launching your car on a brake at 5500 at a stoplight... well first off, its probably not even going to hook unless you just did a nice burnout too.

These are dimension for the SHORT TAIL Chevy TH350 and TH400 transmissions. The TH400 output shaft is also larger than the TH350.Note the difference in the trans mount location. The BOP and multi-fit transmissions have longer tail shafts.

Hope this helps.
