What oil does the manuel transmission and transfer case take on a 79 4x4? I think I read somewhere 30/50 weight but need to make sure? On same subject what does the front and rear axels use?

The book calls for 30 weight motor oil for the trans. The tcase and the trans share fluid so its the same. 80/90 seems to work. I bought a truck with 90W in the trans once, no noticable ill effects. However, I tend to stick with what they recommend.

The axles take 90W gear lube, or 80/90. I don't think you'd need something like 90/140 or whatever it is unless you live in a real hot area and run the freeway hours on end.
