hey everyone i'm new to he site, and i am planning on buying a chevy luv, probably a 79 or an 80 mikado, is there any helpful hints or warnings to heed before buying this? anything common that goes wrong that i need to look for. and the availability of parts, i have been reading about a guy in texas i think that has lots of used parts... also i was wondering if anyone knows a good v6 or straight six motor and trans combination to drop in there? sorry if i sound stupid, but i am just starting out and could any information you guys have, thanks,

Tim

Welcome to the site.

Look for rust. That's the main thing. alot of times the windshield seal will leak, or the door seals, or the gaskets were the wipers come through. sometimes all of the above.
Head gasket/ warped head a can be another problem area.
Pretty much any luv you find will most likely have a cracked dash and dried up door seals.
oh and carburetors sometimes aren't the best...
Best advice, look it over really well. If it runs drive it.

as for a v6, if i was going to put one in, it would be a carburated 4.3l chevy. with a th350 or 700r4 trans.

As for parts, some things can be difficult to find. Ebay is your friend, along with the classifieds and wrecking yard here. Also salvage yards wherever you live. There are things that can be had at parts stores too, alot of times you'll have to wait for them to order something though...

Good luck! (it's really not as bad as it may have sounded :D )

Hey Timmah,
Welcome to the site. I've not been here long, but if you want info, spend some time (Like hours) going through the old posts like I did. there is a goldmine of info just waiting to be dug out. it's valuable, and instead of having to ask questions and wait on a reply, chances are your questions will be answered in the posts. have fun digging. but if you do have a question, these guys are more than willing to help out.
