An inline 6 will be so long that the firewall will need to have major work done to it. Plus the trans will be set back so far that the bell housing will interfere with your feet. It is a soild, smooth design of the inline 6 that makes it very appealing, but in this case i think it's not worth the effort. The weight of a bigger motor is almost a non-issue. The stock front end will hold up just fine. Planting the power of a V-8 to the ground will be a bigger issue before you need to worry about beefing up the front end. As long as you have good front end parts on the truck, it should drive really well. You may want to crank up the torsion bars a bit to get the ride height back. I would recommend going with a V-6 if your really concerned about weight and handling. I had a V-6 for a loooong time and i can tell you that you will not be dissapointed. SB Chevy motor and trans mount brackets can be bought thru Summit.
The stock Luv disk and drum brakes are good enough to deal with either a V-6 or V-8. Just make sure that everything is up to snuff.
