Post subject: toy front leaf springs
PostPosted: Sun May 23, 2004 7:03 pm
i am purchasing a 75 chev luv with a 231 turbo buick v-6 dual bolt pattern th-350 np-205 divorced t case and toyota front and rear axles. they guy who built it had the front springs shortened to fit under the frame. If any of you know how to get the stock yota front springs under there it would help. I want to use a yota lift on it and fit 35s. the front springs are now 36 inches long and im sure wont flex well. I am going to have Big Rocks Offroad extened the frame like a jeep to fit the yota springs under it. Any info would help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the guy that built it sounds like an idiot.

best option would be to weld on new spring hangers to fit toyota springs. what kind of steering setup does it have? does it have the stock push pull steering like a solid axle yota or is it converted to crossover(much more desirable).

 he is no idiot. he built the damn thing after work in less than a month. From a truck that was about an inch off the ground, anyway the reason he had the springs cut down is the distance from the front of the frame to the centerline of the axle is shorter than the locter pin to the spring eye on the toyota springs. The truck has the stock steering box with the push pull steering. i an going to get a yota ifs box and do the high steer. I know the guy who owns Big Rocks Offroad and his 95 solid axle 4 runner has high steer so i know how to fab it. I just want to know if anyone else with yota axles in thier luv used the stock lenght yota springs cause i got the front and rear axles with front springs out of a yota for 100 bucks and im gonna use the srings on this luv.

4link can be done in the front, but it's no piece of cake due to the engine and stuff being in the front, less space. i'd like to think that radius arms and coils would be pretty easy to do with a straight axle though

if you want to do any flexing, that push pull junk has to go. just buy hysteer components, unless you have a buddy who's in a machine shop it's probably just cheaper to buy the arms, they're around $199 a set now. you can get the whole kit(minus the steering box) for $399 from marlin crawler. this guy knows his stuff, he's the expert to go to for toyota stuff[/url]
