I have been given a motor and trans from a 1978 Impala wagon. ( did'nt know Impala made a wagon ) The exhaust manifolds hug the block. Does any one know what kind of mods I should expect...and do I really need to put headers on? My LUV is a 72 but I have already made mods to fit a 78 LUV motor.

You should be ok with the exhaust manifolds, generally they fit pretty well. I've run them on 2 trucks now. As far as mods go...look at the engine swap write up. You've got the trans tunnel, possibly the firewall, radiator location, maybe a new shifter location. Do you have a stick now? What is the the trany out ot the impala?

the motor and trans came out of a 78 impala wagon. They were put into a 72 3/4 ton chevy truck. The chevy truck has been sitting for about 2 years now and just today I fired it up. Yum-Yum.....can hardly wait to hear it in my LUV truck. Anyways, the gearshift on the 3/4 ton truck is on the colum and the LUV truck is on the floor. What shifter should I get, and can I use one from the junkyard? Will I have to change the rearend or can I just use the stock. What about the oil pan...will I need to change it also? Last question.....where can I go to find out about the motor to see how much horsepower it has stock.
