Anyone ever replaced the rubber seal in the front outport shaft in a 79 4x4 luv's transfer case? My son's trying to replace his and no matter how he puts the new seal in it leaks. No transmission shop knows what to do.

I wonder if perhaps the shaft itself is worn where the seal rides. If its worn enough even a new seal wouldn't stop the leak. I looked at http://www.rockauto.com and they do list a redi-sleeve for the front shaft. That would slip over the shaft and cover the worn area. It might require more disassembly to put in than just the seal though.
