i want to do a body lift, and then run some 32 inch swampers. i want to ruc the 4.56 gears out of a trooper. my question is, how do i get them to fit? i was thinking back about previouse posts, and i thought that they were saying that the whole pumpiken was interchangable. so what years and what models have the 4.56 gears?

i rebuilt my holley carb today, and on the top of the sheet for adjustments it said, weber 32/36, thats cool, isnt that like the most desired carb out? so i got the cam and the carb adn its bored, so all i need now is the header and i should be on my way to some good power.

you need an early year trooper. probably before 87. mainly it needs either the 1.9 engine or the 2.3. you need to make sure it has the same axles as your luv. 8 bolt front 10 bolt rear. then verify that it has 4.56 gears by counting the rotations. might also be a code in the glove box that would tell. the third member (pumpkin) should swap since they are the same axles. i plan on doing this swap in the future.

Yep, what he said. 84-86 Trooper, 87s *MIGHT* have the right parts but some of them also had axles more like an 88 trooper which will not fit in the LUV housings. (Technically, the front of an 88 should fit the back of a LUV, but forget I said that just for simplicity sake. ;) ) The front is fairly involved to remove with all the IFS stuff, but the back just pull the four bolts to the bearing holders and then the axles slide right out. The 3rd member unbolts and comes out all together. Alternatively, you can probably take the whole rear axle, leafsprings brakes and all.

if the trooper has drums it might work, if it has discs they are the bigger axles. Good luck whith this :)

An 87 Trooper with drums on the rear might still have a different front diff than a luv even though the drums mean it will have the same rear. I've seen one with the 10 bolt front and rear instead of 10/12 or 8/10 at a salvage yard around here.
