I need some tips on trying to find a rear end for my truck. I finally got my truck down to nothing but the frame and i wanna go ahead and put the rear end on, But i dont know what kind of rear end to put in it. we are building a mild 350 in it with a 4-speed tranny. If any one knows of something that i could get for cheap and that will hold up when i hit the gas, please tell me. Im tryin to get as much info as possible for my truck.THANKS 8)

some i can think of off the top of my head:

rears that will definitely stand up to horsepower:
dana 60
ford 9"
gm 12 bolt
gm 14 bolt(most are probably too wide)

rears that will stay together with a v8, but not if you drive with a lead foot
toyota 8"(available in 5 & 6 lug, 1/2 ton and 1 ton versions)
dana 44
dana 35

really depends on how wide they are. rear ends are typically pretty cheap at the junk yard. ford 9" is a good rear end, really common and was used in both cars and trucks, so you can probably find one the right width. the aftermarket is great for it too.

if you live close to me, i have a dana 60 out of a van. if youwere interested, post back. i think that it is 2 inches narrowerthen a dana 60 out of a fullsize. plus, i have heard of some five lug dana 60's that are narrow enoughto fit a bronco II.

What im looking for is something that will work good without cuting the frame and without having the rear end narrowed. is there any 9'' rear ends that will bolt right up. Where are you located by the way?

S-10 rears will bolt right up with no modification.
they will take some punishment as long as you don't put slicks on, or do any hard launching.
do a search and you will find a few discussions about S-10 rears under the luvs.

Well, it is probably close. Minor modification is probably needed to make ANY rear-end fit. I would try to find a chevy rear end out of an old nova v-8. They may be narrow enough without a need to narrow it further.
