So around tax time Im thinking Ill get an overdrive trans for the luv. Im having a tough time finding info on installation for the 200r4. My brother used to rebuild them at a gm garage, but that wont help me on installing it. Anybody know of a site that could help or any info yourself?

Thats whats in there now. And yes, they do have similar demensions. My concern is the tv cable mounting and adjusting. Retrofitting it an old intake and carb could be a challenge. If it can be done at all. I dont know.

Found a site called bow tie overdrives. If anyone else is interested in this conversion. Sounds like itll cost more than I have in the entire truck though. Maybe Ill run the th350 for a couple of years now.

I ran a 700R4 for a couple years in mine. Not sure about the 200r4 but when I went from a TH400 to the 700r4 I had to make a new driveshaft, make a new trans mount, and buy a universal 700R4 trans cable bracket from SummitRacing. That was it!

I ran a fairly stock 700R4 for several years and loved it.

Then I got a wild hair and built a new motor that made about 475HP. After breaking the 700R4 five times (yes, 5) I went back to a TH400.

What did your Luv run with 475hp? low 11???
My 383 made 490, and will be going in after new years.
Just so I know what to expect.
Thanks

I plan on doing a 200-4R with my 383 too.

They are the same lenght as a short turbo 350 (around 6" tailhousing )and use the same yoke, so the drive shaft is the same.
However the mount is at the back and you will have to modify the crossmember to be able to mount it. The cable is no big deal. Most auto parts stores(Advane,Autozone, and Pep Boys) have brackets that are adjustable and will get the cable at the spot it is needed. I ran one for years in a Buick and put a transbrake in a Gran National, But for everyday driving I prefer the 2004R to a 700. If strenght is needed I would stay away from either unless you want to spend a bunch of money and I am not sure they will hold up for long then.

I am always hearing of this guy and that gut that can make one last but I have not seen any yet.

Well, heres another guy that can make one last. Actualy it would be my brother. There like any other trans if you spend the money where you need to. Only problem is the price is about double compared to the older trans. You just gotta know the right person with the right knowledge. Unfortunatly for me, knowing somebody doesnt help me afford it just yet.
