 Post subject: 2.6 trooper trans ?

just clarifying the 2.6 trooper 5 speed is a direct bolt up swap to the block correct? with a u joint swap on the driveshaft. ?
i found one in pick n pull im thinking about taking the tranny from

The 2.3 Trooper trans is more a direct bolt -up than the 2.6: 2.3 ('86 & '87) uses the same MSG tranny as a LUV, cable operated, same clutch set up, has a rear slip yoke like the Luv, just a different size. The 2.6 ('88 & newer) uses the MUA tranny, it's somewhat bigger than the MSG, uses a larger hydraulic clutch, the rear output is a flange with bolts & a separate slip joint in the drivshaft.
Either one will bolt to the 1.8 but the MSG will be a whole lot easier.

thank ya for the quick reply.
hmm.... so im looking for the tranny from the carbed 2.3.. i know of them in the troopers. did they have them in anything else to raise my chance of finding one??

pups 81/85 and trops 84/85
have the same 4sp 4WD MSG as the 79/80 4X4 luvs

86/87 its a 5sp 14.5% O\D 5" longer and 1st, 2nd, 3rd is a geared a touch different other than that, its the same trans.
its found in 4WD pups and trops 86/87
