if anyone on the forum has any experience with superchargers i would love to hear from ya!!

i have been looking into using a toyota SC14 roots supercharger stock 1.8. heard about them on the ozgemini.com forums and figured they will work just as well on the luv.
4wd limits my engine swap options by quite a bit so im planning to upgrade my rebuilt stock engine with a charger.
i have removed the emissions gear including the air pump and its components leaving an open area on the exhaust side to mount the supercharger (with some heat shielding) as well as the mounting bolt holes from the air pump brackets to mount the charger.
HEAT IS THE ENEMY so any information anyoen has on effective ways of lowering the temperature of the supercharger, the air it intakes, and the under hood temp is welcome.

i have done research on turbochargers but not as much on supercharger systems.
so im wondering,

 where is the best place to mount the BOV?
im planning on running low boost of about 8-10lb. maybe higher once i have the setup dialed in and am confident with its operation.

 what is the best pulley clutch setup for reliability/power. 1/2, 2/3, 1/3 throttle (i dont want to run it 100% of the time and overheat it and cause premature wear and damage)

 what methods work for cooling the charger during operation? cold air will be drawn instead of the hotter air near the exhaust manifold. HEAT is my biggest concern with a boosted setup and since the LUV is my daily driver AND my only vehicle i decided on a supercharger since it can be disconnected and the truck returned to N/A very easily compared to a turbo in case of damage.

 any info about avoiding extra heat and damage to the engine and supercharger would be great. not opposed to criticism on the topic. (an engine swap is not optional currently, on a very short budget as im working on moving out in january)

sorry about making this so long im trying to make sure i do it right the first time! i dont have the money to fund a second try.

Hello and Happy Holidays!
I have never ran a supercharger but I have turbo'ed over a hundred Luvs.
Believe it or not, your biggest problems is going to be head gaskets, it seems like one hard detonation and the gasket blows!! I would not go over 6 lbs to start with, and plan on "O ringing" the block. A good electonic water injection system that sprays water into the induction tube will help, but I would advise you to look into MSD's boost retard ignition system too. I love these little engines but I have not had any luck with turboing them, unless you like to work on them, a lot!!
Here is the sequence I have found- You fix the head gasket problem by O ringing, Then the pistons crack, you replace the pistons with forged aluminum ones, The clutch won't hold the extra horsepower, you install a HD clutch, usually a solid disc one, Then the engine detonates and it knocks the teeth off the cluster gear in the transmission!!! I won't even get into the front end, 4WD part!
Sorry to discourage you, but you sound like a reasonable guy, and I hope I can save you a lot of heartache and expense.
I would advise a good intake and carburetor system, header , a larger ex system all the way back, a upgraded ignition system and a hd radiator. The live with it!
If you want to go HD 4 wheeling, install a better rear end, one with a good posi traction in it, you would be surprised where one of these will go with a locker rear end!
Good luck,
dusty

not worth it IMHO on an the stock 1.8.

and the toyota blower is so so at best. there are more efficent units out there. what sucks for that, is the lack of aftermarket support.

better off with a turbo in this application.
