In middle of doing my 5 spd swap nut you guys have me a little woried! I pulled my 5 spd from a 82 Isuzu pup, All the post that i read say you have to have 83-**. Am I goin gto have problems? I already swapped the rear and it bolted up fine. At the yard that Pulled my 5 spd from it moved through all 5 gears and and reverse. Just Curious before I go ripping trans.

Thanks,

Would have posted it in the 5 spd Sticky not sure woul have gotten response though.

The '81-'85 are the same. If you used an '86 or later, you'd need a different slip yoke. However, it's worth the trouble if you can get one. The '81-'85 5-speeds are pretty fragile. They strengthened the transmissions in '86.

Make sure you keep the right oil in it--5w30 motor oil.

Got it in! just have to rig some brake line and swap the yoke. The 82 drive line was to long so just going to swap yoke over. This rear has weird E brake set up. Its all on the back side of the axle shouldn't be hard though. Have to re-weld my custom exhaust, or might just put a flex piece in case I have to take it off again! Hopefully Im rolling soon> :ebiggrin

changing the rear and the trans that should be about a 750 rpm drop if your old rear was 4.11
if it was 4.55s your going to change more like 1,100 rpms

will make driving at 60 a very nice thing to do, in stead of needing ear plugs
