I have seen alot of examples but I wish to get down to nuts and bolts.
I have 80 luv, some parts on it seem to be 81 luv but title says 80. so I think of it as late 80 luv.

I found a 86 pup 5 speed. The wrecking yard says it is bolted up to a 1.9 L motor. I don't know if they know what they are talking about. I don't think 1.9 was in 86 but I also no nothing about pups.

it looks like late 70's luv. the drive line is different then a pups. a person has to change yokes ir custom biuld a driveline. I have been trying to do my homework before doing a post.

I know that luv changed some stuff in the 80's.

what needs to be changed on a 1980 luv to fit a 86 pup 5 speed trans in it?
Can I use pup driveline without changing?
Can I use the Luv driveline with no changes?
do I have to get a custom driveline?

just a reminder to those how normally work on old v8s. Trans takes motor oil. I lesson I learned the hard way. Rebiuld the 4 speed by a shop, $500.
order new trans $500 plus shipping
1986 PUP 5speed trans out of a wrecking yard $150 plus time to remove it.

as far as i know 1987 was the last 2WD 1.9L year
1985 was the last 4WD 1.9L year.
81 was the first 1.9L year

1986 was the first 2.3L year with the stronger MSG trans that was sold 86/95
86/87 2.3Ls where sold as a 4WD for those two years ONLY a 2WD trans from these two years will have the right yoke.
88 up to 95 the 2.3L is a 2WD engine only they have a yoke thats mated to a bigger drive line.

its a very commen up-grade for the 81/85 2WD diesels
the trans is 100% the same on the out side as the 81/85 transes

if your trans is a 4 speed there about 5" shorter than a 5 speed.........so
best thing is to get trans, drive line and rear end from the doner.
