I thought I had a TH400. It is out of a 1971 C20 (3/4 ton) I read in one of the posts on here that the tranny mounts on the 400 were the easiest to do. I got my firewall beat enough, the motor mounts are where they should be, but my tranny mount is about 10" in front of the tranny crossmember. Do I have a TH400, or is it something else? Did I just misunderstand the post that said the mount bolted right up? HELP! I need to get this truck driving before rainy season (mid october.)

its not a direct bolt up. if you got a kit, they supply a plate that bolts to your stock trans mount and then your TH400 should bolt up to that adapter plate. If you don't have a kit, you're going to have to fab something. but its not going to bolt up to the stock cross member/trans mount.

if your tranny is out of a truck it is more than likely a long tailshaft turbo 400 , they where used only in trucks and such if you are gonna use it for any type of dragracing i would use one out of a car , there is tons of aftermarket parts for the shorter tailshaft 400s

Long 350's in trucks short 400's in trucks. The best way is to look where the modulater valve is and it will tell you if it is a 350 or 400. At the rear of the transmission and pointing to the rearend it is a 350. If it is on the passenger side up by the torque converter and pointing at the passenger door it is a 400. Long 400 came in full size cars and short ones came in trucks. The longest one's are in caddy's.
