Has anyone ever ran a supercharger or turbo on a 350 with stock internals? If so, how much boost can they handle? I used to have an AWD turbo eagle talon, and a Turbo Toyota supra. Both cars hauled ass. I ran 22 psi on race gas in the talon for a 12.5 1/4 and I ran 18 psi on the supra for a top speed of 170 on the freeway. My point is, I'm addicted to boost, there is just something about the sound of a big turbo when it gates, or the sound of a blow-off valve when you shift gears. I want to do something different, so I am thinking about building a twin-turbo V8 luv. I could put it together pretty cheap if I just ran the stock internals for now, until I rebuild it with forged componets. If I run dual externally-gated mitsubishi 14B's with an air-to-air intercooler and dual blow-off valves, at 10 psi each, which is a very low setting for those turbos, I should be able to get a extremely quick spool time and a butt-load of horsepower. On a typical V8, you can probably get 12-15 horsepower/ 1 psi. So, dual turbos running 10 psi each should come out to like 260 hp or more on top of a motor that is already like 300-400 hp. Once I build the motor, I could easily run 15-20 psi each. Or, upgrade to a pair of 20g's and a big fatty water-to-air. The 20g's are about $600 each though, for used ones. The truck will be tube chassised, with a built 9 inch with some serious rubber. Turbonetics built a twin-turbo V8 celica, which was the first import to break in to the 200 mph 1/4. It has a 4.6L (289ci) toyota Tundra engine. It put out like 1700 hp. So, its not a new idea. If I manage to do this, the truck should run at least 8 second range. The good thing about turbos though, rather than a supercharger, is that you can turn to boost down to make it more streetable. I could run 5 psi each for a daily driver, then with the push of some buttons and the turn of a fuel pressure regulator, I could run 20 psi each for a 900hp, holy shit!, I crapped my pants ride of your life. Plus, unless the turbo is spooled, you basically just have a V8, which isn't too hard to drive. Let me know what you think or if you have ever heard of it. I know there are people doing this, just not in luvs. I have seen a couple chevelles and camaros running turbos. I already have some "blueprints" if you will, of how I could run the plumbing and the manifolds and all that stuff. How do you think it will sound? Like a fighter jet breathing through daul 4.5" exhaust!
HAHAHAHAHAHA! (evil laugh)
Peace guys, thanks for the space.
